Walk - a - Workshop: 3:30 pm
We will take a tour and go deep in conversation about the importance of Agroecology in the agricultural rebirth that exists in our archipelago and how young people are leading this transformation. We will also talk about the challenges and obstacles that currently exist, how difficult it is for young people to assume this lifestyle and how to overcome it. We’ll dive into the current climate situation into context and how through Agroecology we can grow healthy and chemical-free food while protecting our resources and ensuring food for future generations. Through this Walk-a-Workshop we will awaken the value and importance of this struggle and work towards true food sovereignty. We are still far from that dream and we need solidarity and unity to achieve real change.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FARM:

Pueblo Nuevo was born in response to the uncertainty that reigns in our archipelago and on the current planet through agroecology; as an alternative to make possible a new way of understanding and carrying out life. Dilora and Javier, both Sociology Majors from the University of Puerto Rico and their little ones Aymé and Taboa live, work, recreate and educate themselves based on a philosophy of change, well-being, resilience and sustainability. Pueblo Nuevo is their life project; inserting yourself into this new world means revaluing what we really want as humanity, without having to reinvent the wheel.

For a few years they have dedicated their time to the organic production of vegetables, vegetables and tubers; They also have a great interest in the transformation of food through fermentation to provide greater nutrition and durability. Their farm is located in the center of the northern Karst, sheltered by mogotes in one of the largest green patches in Puerto Rico. It is there where day by day they fight to build their dream through Agroecology; through an agricultural system that does not consider only the exploitation of the land as its purpose, but also recognizes and values the effort, work and sacrifice that is carried out to produce healthy food while committing ourselves to conserving our resources to the next generations.

For this it is extremely important to share knowledge, collaborate, work in community and open the way for those who come after. Their call is to simplify life. It is to bet on a model where local initiatives are supported, work culture and perseverance are valued, seeds and traditions are preserved and nature is respected with its splendor and wisdom.

Let’s get fancy! 5:00 pm
Have you ever tasted the freshness? We will be gathering the freshest ingredients from our local farmers and the surrounding community of farmers to the kitchen at the farm.

Cook Carolina Juliette will prepare our Valentine’s Day feast.

“Hello! I am Carolina Juliette, granddaughter of Doña Fela. I grew up in a chair in her kitchen watching her cook and have been cooking ever since. I studied Social Sciences at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. This training instilled in me a concern for managing ways of life towards the autonomy of Puerto Rico and this led me to participate in the course on Agroecology taught by Josco Bravo. Through this experience, I connected with various farmers and cooks who today farm and cook for our food sovereignty.

I currently work with “Departamento de la Comida” the construction of a 'food hub' for Puerto Rico. I also do 'pop-up dinners' and 'caterings' with an emphasis on native ingredients.

I believe that agroecological practices are not only our medicine but also the way to eradicate colonialism in Puerto Rico”.
